New Los Angeles Testing Service
Our materials testing laboratory have recently purchased equipment which allows us to carry out Los Angeles testing (resistance to fragmentation to BS EN 1097-2) in-house. The equipment is now setup and fully calibrated within its sound proof housing.
This type of test is used as an indicator of the relative quality of aggregates for use in construction. Aggregates are subject to significant wear and tear as a result of various processes during construction and this test measures the degradation of aggregates when subjected to abrasion and impact in a rotating steel drum with an abrasive charge of steel balls. The test helps to assess the suitability of aggregates for use in road construction, as aggregates not adequately resistant to abrasion may cause premature structural failure.
