Friday Fossil Find

During routine Geotechnical Soil Testing, this piece of gravel was found in a Particle Size Distribution (or Grading) Test. An unusual instance of a totally silicified echinoid, in other words a 100 million year old flint sea urchin!

It would likely have been fossilised in the chalk and at some point in the last few thousand years and
found its way with other flints into a river channel around Elsenham in Essex.
