Celebrating nearly 30 Years of Roger Smith

It is hard to believe but after nearly 30 years with Southern Testing Roger Smith (Director 1997-2015) has reached pensionable age. Roger took semi retirement in June 2015 and will continue part time until May 2016. After that his family have persuaded him that it is time to relax. Roger joined Southern Testing in 1986 after a career globe trotting in the name of Geology and dragging his young family around with him. He brought a great deal of expertise with him and built upon it with his Open University degree in Law, membership of SiLC and also becoming a scrutineer for the Chartered Geologist scheme of the Geological Society.

Roger is a keen swimmer, cyclist and tennis player and all round family man, we are sure he won’t find it difficult to fill his days once he’s no longer on site or writing reports. His four young granddaughters also keep him busy.

The gap left by Roger’s retirement has also opened up opportunities for younger members of the Southern Testing team. Three new main board directors have been appointed; Stuart Pratt, Peter Sugden and Jon Race.

Neil Burrows has been promoted to the position of Operations Director.
