Trainee Field Technician

ST Consult, based in rural offices in Creaton, is part of Southern Testing, an established company providing an extensive range of environmental and geotechnical consultancy services.

We are currently looking to recruit a Trainee Field Technician to join our field team, carrying out geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigations and in situ site testing.

This role involves active outdoor working in all weathers, often with early starts.

We are looking for a professional, hard-working and motivated individual with the ability to work as part of a team but also at times alone. No previous experience is required as full training will be provided, with pathways towards career progression for the right candidate.  Candidates should ideally have good GCSEs, or higher.

The role entails overtime, including travelling to and from site, which you will be expected to undertake as and when the job requires.

A full UK driving license is essential for this position.

We are an independent, management owned company with a strong commitment to our staff, evidenced by our low staff turnover (more than 50% of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years).  We have a total staff of 75 with 55-60 professional/technically qualified.  We put a strong emphasis on professional development for all our staff.  We provide an in-house programme of training for staff, and external CPD training days.

Southern Testing are continuing to work through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency, including carrying out site work where it is safe to do so.

The Government have given express support to the Construction sector and have issued specific guidance for working on site. The Construction Leadership Council have also issued guidance.

We have revised our travelling and working practices to ensure that our staff are protected, and to meet the particular requirements of the guidance as well as our own risk assessments. The guidance and our working practices are under constant review.

Most site investigation work can be undertaken safely under the current restrictions.
