Rotary cored borehole fossil find

It’s not uncommon for a soils lab to find fossils of one kind or another in samples, but it’s always a thrill to find them, especially in such good preservation order as this Ammonite from the Dyrham Formation of the Lias Group. Recovered at 13.5m from a rotary cored borehole to provide pile design parameters and drilled by our very own Dan and Ollie in Northampton using our Comacchio 205 drilling rig, it hasn’t seen the light of day since the early Jurassic.

Our best guess as non-Palaeontologists is 𝘜𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘫𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘪 but perhaps someone more educated to these things out there might be able to help?
