Haywards Heath Relief Road Ground Investigation
Southern Testing has completed detailed ground investigations as part of the new £15m Haywards Heath Relief Road for the developer Crest Nicholson on behalf of West Sussex Country Council.
The plans involve the creation a new road and several roundabouts in the Rocky Lane area of the town, with realignment of existing roads and construction of new bridges to take the road over the adjoining London to Brighton railway line.
Southern Testing’s work included rotary cored boreholes, to confirm local geology and ground bearing capacities, together with a series of machine excavated trial pits with full scale soakage testing to the BRE 365 standard. Selected soil samples were then analysed, using Southern Testing’s geotechnical laboratory facilities at East Grinstead and a external specialist contamination laboratory.
Work has now reached Stage 5 of the project, with the construction of the new bridge underway, and will finally be complete by the end of 2015, diverting over 8 million drivers a year away from the heavily congested town centre.
