Ground Investigation for New Water Pipeline

Southern Testing have recently completed ground investigation to aid the design of a new water pipeline in Surrey. The existing main is over 100 years old and runs through a quarry.  Following a regular occurrence of pipe burst in this area, the local water authority decided to replace and re-route the 600m long 250mm diameter ductile iron pipe. Unfortunately, the new route also passed through an area with a history of quarrying and across in filled sand pits.

Data collected from the ground investigation was used to carry out analysis on the performance and stability of the ground along the proposed route and the contamination characteristics of the ground. A soil resistivity survey was also carried out to determine if corrosion protection was required for the new ductile iron pipe.
