Adapting Flood and Coastal Defences to Climate Change

Southern Testing are proud to have supported the University of Greenwich in collaboration with the Institution of Civil Engineers and their Research and Development Fund on the publication of their research paper on Adapting Flood and Coastal Defences to Climate Change.

Flood and coastal defences are critical infrastructure within the UK to protect human life and properties from flooding. Due to the changing environments caused by climate change, flood and coastal defences become more vulnerable, thus requiring accurate performance predictions and effective adaptation measures to ensure their safety during the design lifetime.

This research project attempts to tackle critical problems related to the impacts of climate change on the sustainability and safety of flood and coastal defence systems at a UK national level. The research focuses on developing novel techniques for effective adaptation measures to climate change through reliable asset performance predictions.
