Southern Testing are designers and project managers of award winning sustainable remediation schemes. We won the “Best use of combined systems” award at the Brownfield Briefing in 2006 for use of bioremediation and stabilisation to treat a gasworks in Kent, which was then developed with over 200 residential properties with private garden areas. Having identified the extent of contamination through phased investigation and risk-based analysis, the first step in designing a remedial solution is to assess the available technologies and options. Based on our systematic approach to remediation, Southern Testings contaminated land teams have the experience, and technical know-how to design remediation solutions to address all relevant pollutant linkages.
For every project, we carry out extensive consultation with the regulators and various remediation specialists, in order to provide the client with a sustainable, cost effective and durable treatment solution. We have experience in providing schemes that meet design and construction needs, gain community and stakeholder acceptance and can be completed within commercially driven time frames.
For more complex sites the appraisals process often involves laboratory or site pilot trials.
Working with specialist remediation contractors we have successfully employed the following remedial technologies:

The agreed remediation strategy is designed and fully documented within a site specific Remediation Method Statement (RMS). This document sets out the processes to be employed, targets to be achieved, how the site will be validated and monitoring requirements. The possible environmental impacts (noise, odour etc..) and health and safety issues are considered in detail with the relevant mitigation measures documented. The RMS is submitted to the Regulators and Planners for approval prior to commencement of any site works. We are certified to the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards for Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Management thereby reducing and minimising risk to our clients. |

Southern Testing believes that it is important to consult with the Regulators from an early stage in the design. For some sites, an investigation strategy is discussed upfront and submitted for approval prior to commencement of any site works. The Regulators are kept informed of site progress throughout the investigation and monitoring phase, conceptual design, and pilot and laboratory trials. This unprecedented degree of early involvement is often instrumental in obtaining the backing and agreement of the planners and regulators for the remedial strategy during the design stage and also helps to streamline the later validation process.

Southern Testing capabilities in management and supervision of remediation schemes have been demonstrated having successfully completed many hundreds of challenging and award winning sustainable remediation projects. Our involvement in a management or supervisory role is tailored to meet the needs of the project, whilst ensuring that sufficient information is collected and documented to allow approval and signoff from the regulators. This may be in the form of a “watching brief” or alternatively as Project Managers working alongside the Specialist Remediation Contractor(s), the Developer and the Groundworks / Construction Team. |
Our specialist environmental team will carry out remediation validation to ensure that the project meets the approval of the regulatory authorities.
Working with our specially designed “Project Organiser” software, clients are kept up to date with progress and compliance during site remediation works, and can be provided with post construction certification and reports to ensure approval of the regulatory authorities.
