A risk from solutions features was
perceived on this development of 2 and 4 storey blocks of residential apartments.
Southern Testing designed and undertook a detailed ground investigation,
comprising geophysical surveys, trial pits and dynamic probing to delineate
the presence of dissolution features, followed by a second phase of dynamic

The site is located at quite a high level on the back slope of the North Downs to the west of the River Medway. It contains two large covered concrete reservoirs. The site and the local area has a history of major subsidence, possibly attributed to dissolution collapse in the chalk. Dynamic probing equipment was used to establish the extent of possible voids. This was followed by a geophysical survey, boreholes, geotechnical testing and reporting.
