Greenhithe, Kent
The site was situated close to the shoreline of the Thames Estuary, where it is proposed to construct a hotel, with access roads and car parking. A floating barge was commissioned to enable cable percussive boreholes to be drilled into the riverbed to depths of 25m. Additional measures required included the provision of an unexploded ordnance survey with magnetometers, and special ‘soft start’ techniques to minimise any adverse impact on marine wildlife.
Newhaven, East Sussex
The site, which extended to about 5.5Ha, comprises a marina and surrounding boatyards, yacht club, and a row of shops, which was to be redeveloped with a new marina and eleven blocks of flats with associated vehicle parking, access roads and landscaped areas. Cable percussive boreholes were drilled onland and from a floating platform, with dynamic probing and CPT tests on the shoreline.
Croydon
