Various Food and Clothing Retail Outlets
Various investigations as part of refurbishment works to existing retail outlets. Generally comprised intrusive investigation to confirm the existing floor slab construction detail, underlying ground conditions and provide bearing capacity recommendations for internal structural works. Many projects necessitated use of restricted access plant and equipment as well as night time working.

Warehouse Refurbishment, Feltham, London
The site operates as a trading estate comprising 16 light production/warehouse units used for storage and distribution, wholesalers, light engineering and office space. A ground investigation including sampling and compressive strength testing of concrete cores taken from the existing floor slabs, together with boreholes to prove the underlying soil conditions was required as part of refurbishment works.
Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, Hampshire
This project incorporated a massive mixed use development comprising over 95 retail outlets, a 14 screen cinema, night club, amusement areas, restaurants, hotel, housing and apartments located on the former waterfront naval base site. Southern Testing were appointed to undertake the Main Ground Investigation which comprised over 30 Cable Percussive and 15 Rotary Boreholes to depths of up to 50m, 50 trial pits and trenches, as well as overwater probing and borehole investigation works. Several supplementary ground investigations were undertaken by Southern Testing during the development, which included an inclined rotary borehole investigation for the pedestrian access tunnel beneath the railway line.
